The Islands I Visited In Indonesia

I went to SULAWESI in 1987,  to a region called Tanah Toraja.  Again, I was alone,
except for a guide and a driver. We used a minibus to move from place to place, but,
as usual, we also did a lot of walking, taking in the sights, and the ceremonies - death
ceremonies.  One such ceremony was for an eighty-year-old woman  with  five living
children and many grandchildren,   each of whom was obligated to contribute seven,
or more,  buffalos to  be sacrficed  during  the ceremony.   For this event, about fifty
buffalos, out of a hundred, were killed.
